Quality Tools for Better Drillers – Since 1865!

FAMAG is one of Germany’s most respected tool manufacturers. With roots dating back to 1865, FAMAG has built a global reputation for precision, innovation, and uncompromising quality.

A photo from 1912 still hangs in FAMAG’s factory in Remscheid, showing 60 employees standing proudly in front of the “Remscheider Bohrer-Fabrik Friedr. Aug. Mühlhoff.” At that time, the company was already nearly 50 years old, producing auger bits, spoon bits, and specialized tools for joiners, carpenters, and wagon builders. From its earliest days, the company was powered—literally—by innovation. Its own steam engine drove machines, grindstones, and drop hammers, ensuring production could continue even in times of electricity shortages.

That pioneering spirit remains alive today, and over the decades, FAMAG has expanded its range to include drills for wood, metal, stone, earth, and countless specialty applications—all built to last, all made in Germany.

What Does “FAMAG” Mean?

The name combines the initials of the founder, Friedrich August Mühlhoff (F.A.M.), with the original designation as a stock corporation (AG). Until the year 2000, the official company name was FAMAG-Werkzeugfabrik Friedrich-August-Mühlhoff. When the last member of the Mühlhoff family left the business, the company shortened its name to what we know today: FAMAG-Werkzeugfabrik.

Made in Bergisches Land – Made for Professionals

FAMAG’s production facility is located in the Bergisches Land region, historically known as the cradle of Germany’s tool industry. While the landscape has changed drastically in recent decades, FAMAG has consistently kept pace with market demands through continuous modernization. Today, their production facility is equipped exclusively with state-of-the-art CNC technology, advanced robotics, and highly skilled specialists dedicated to ensuring top-tier quality.

Why FAMAG Stands Out

FAMAG’s philosophy is clear: develop tools for professionals, with professionals in mind. By understanding the exact needs of tradespeople, FAMAG designs products that perform flawlessly in real-world applications—tools that not only deliver precision but also make the craft more enjoyable.

With nearly 175 years of expertise, FAMAG has earned a reputation for:

  • Made in Germany quality

  • Outstanding value for money

  • Long service life across all products

Unlike low-cost alternatives, FAMAG tools consistently deliver the reliability and performance demanded by professionals worldwide.

The Product Range

FAMAG offers one of the broadest selections of drilling and milling tools worldwide, with over 3,500 products. While their primary focus is on wood drilling, their range also includes solutions for plastics, metal, stone, concrete, and more. Many of their products are patented, with unique selling points that make them industry leaders.

Some highlights include:

  • HM-Bormax³ – the all-rounder for all-rounders

  • WS-Bormax® – the high-speed Forstner bit

  • Classic Forstner bits

  • HM-tipped drill bits

  • Wood twist drill bits with special spirals

Recognition of their excellence has even come from across the Atlantic: in a global comparison test by Fine Woodworking magazine, FAMAG’s Super Forstner Bit Classic (1630 series) was awarded “Best Overall.”

Beyond the Standard

FAMAG not only produces standard solutions but also custom-made tools for specific applications. Whether you’re a professional craftsman, industrial user, or demanding DIY enthusiast, you can count on FAMAG tools to deliver unmatched performance—drill after drill, cut after cut.
